Obermayer Attorneys Participated at 2025 PBA Family Law Meeting

July 10, 2025

Obermayer attorneys Stephanie Winegrad, Hillary Moonay, and Gia Sacchetta participated at the 2025 Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Family Law Section Summer Meeting, held July 10–13, 2025, in Washington, D.C. During the meeting, Robert Whitelaw was honored with the 2025 Eric Turner Memorial Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the practice of family law.

Stephanie Winegrad spoke on Thursday, July 10, during the AAML Program. Her presentation, “Are the Custody Factors on the Road to Extinction? How to Question and/or Defend the Unwritten Presumption of 50-50 Custody in Pennsylvania,”  provided guidance on presenting your case in a way that challenges the often reflexive, unwritten presumptions regarding 50/50 legal and physical custody and moves the decision-maker to consider alternate schedules of primary/partial custody when applying the 16 factors.

Hillary Moonay moderated the Plenary Session on Friday, July 11. Her panel, “Navigating the Legislative Landscape: What Family Law Practitioners Need to Know about How a Bill Becomes a Law (Really) and More!” featured legislators from the Pennsylvania Senate and House, alongside members of the judiciary. The session offered a deep dive into recent and pending legislation impacting family law in Pennsylvania and provided insight into how practitioners can stay informed and effectively advocate for their clients amid ongoing legislative change.

Gia Sacchetta participated in the Plenary Session on Sunday, July 13, on the panel titled “Case Law, Rules & Legislative Updates.” This interactive session reviewed recent appellate decisions and legislative developments. Panelists shared insights and practical takeaways on how these decisions will impact family law issues in the future.
