Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP attorneys Matthew Green and Ivo Becica presented, “Ban the Box,” at the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey HR Council. They addressed New Jersey’s Ban the Box Law which was enacted last year, similar laws and ordinances in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia, best practices for conducting background checks in accordance with federal law, and hiring practices to reduce risk under state and federal anti-discrimination provisions.
Green is a partner in the labor relations & employment law department and the litigation department, where he serves as lead litigation counsel in employment related matters and complex commercial disputes.
Becica focuses his practice on defending employment matters, including litigation if it should arise, streamlining the process for his clients. He has significant experience analyzing and applying state and federal law, including discrimination, retaliation and harassment claims under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, Conscientious Employee Protection Act, Title VII, and constitutional claims under the New Jersey Civil Rights Act and 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
