Julie Colton Featured in Forbes on Growing Demand for Prenuptial Agreements
In the May 30, 2026, Forbes article, “Why Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce Need A Prenup And You Might Too,” Obermayer family law partner Julie Colton discusses the increasing popularity of prenuptial agreements among couples of all income levels.
Using Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce as a high-profile example, the article explores how prenups help couples define financial expectations and property rights before marriage. While prenups are often associated with wealthy individuals, Julie shares that she is seeing not only more but also a wider variety of couples seeking out prenups.
“It’s not just millionaires or billionaires looking for advice,” Julie observes. She says one group particularly interested in prenuptial agreements is the children of divorce.
Children who have grown up watching such splits have added motivation to make decisions about property and assets before the marriage even happens, Julie says. As an experienced family law mediator, she knows that it’s far easier to negotiate terms when you’re not angry at each other.
