Hillary Moonay Discusses the Risks of AI in Divorce on Off the Fence Podcast

June 25, 2026

Hillary Moonay, partner and co-chair of Obermayer’s Family Law Group, recently joined Karen Covy on the Off the Fence podcast to discuss the growing use of artificial intelligence in divorce matters and the risks individuals should understand before relying on AI tools.

In the episode, “Think Using AI in Divorce Saves Money? Think Again,” Hillary explained that while AI can be a useful tool for organizing information and helping clients better understand legal concepts, it cannot replace legal advice or account for the unique circumstances that often drive family law outcomes.

“Many people assume AI is a shortcut that will reduce legal expenses,” Hillary said. “But family law matters involve highly sensitive information and unique circumstances. Using AI improperly can create problems that are expensive, and sometimes impossible, to fix.”

The conversation covered privacy concerns associated with uploading sensitive documents to public AI platforms, the potential impact on attorney-client privilege, and the limitations of AI-generated legal agreements. Hillary also discussed practical ways clients can use AI effectively, including organizing financial information and preparing questions for consultations.
