Andrew Horowitz to Present on Litigating Civil Cases in Federal Court

October 23, 2025

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Obermayer partner Andrew Horowitz will co-present at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania’s CLE program, “Minimizing the Unknown: How to Try a Prisoner Civil Rights Case (or Any Civil Case!) in Federal Court.”

This CLE is designed for attorneys who litigate civil cases in federal court, with a focus on those interested in serving as pro bono trial counsel in pro se prisoner civil rights (PCR) cases. The program will offer both substantive insights into PCR cases and practical guidance from the perspectives of the bench, pro bono counsel, and the Department of Corrections.

Topics will include:

  • Managing pro se prisoners as clients

  • Pretrial orders and conferences

  • Jury selection

  • Courtroom protocols and logistics

  • Trial skills such as examining witnesses, introducing exhibits, and making objections

While the program emphasizes PCR litigation, the skills covered are broadly applicable to any federal civil trial and will benefit attorneys across practice areas.
