“My experience working for hospitals, physicians, healthcare providers, and whistleblowers gives me unique insight into compliance issues and internal investigations. ”
Ben focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, with a emphasis on disputes related to healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse, and compliance and employment matters. He also provides regulatory and compliance advice to a broad range of healthcare clients, including hospitals, physician practice groups, and skilled nursing facilities.
Ben is a natural problem solver who enjoys analyzing and investigating issues. He uses his skills to find solutions that are compliant with complex U.S. healthcare regulations, and that are also workable for his clients.
When he’s not working, Ben enjoys traveling and exploring new cities, New England professional sports, taking in Broadway shows, hiking, kayaking, and running.
Ben has advised clients on various matters, including data privacy and security, HIPAA and state privacy laws, corporate compliance, the Stark Law, the False Claims Act, Anti-kickback statute, self-disclosure protocol submissions, and other day-to-day legal and risk issues. He also conducts internal investigations related to the Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, federal and state false claims acts, Medicare and Medicaid billing, and HIPAA.
Prior to joining the firm, Ben served as a health law attorney for a national boutique health law firm. Preceding that, he worked for a Philadelphia firm where he represented whistleblowers in federal False Claims Act litigation. Ben’s representation of whistleblowers resulted in almost $300 million being returned to state and federal governments and gives him a unique insight into healthcare and employment compliance and litigation.
Ben’s notable work includes:
- Litigated several multimillion dollar False Claims Act cases to a resolution;
- Served as part of outside general counsel team to five hospitals, handling all physician contracting, significant internal investigations, multiple government self-disclosures, graduate medical education contracting, and acquisitions of physician groups.
Ben has been named as a Pennsylvania Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
