Matthew McHugh Appointed Solicitor for Bensalem Township Zoning Hearing Board

March 08, 2019

Attorney Matthew J. McHugh was recently appointed as the Solicitor for the Bensalem Township Zoning Hearing Board during the Board’s annual reorganizational meeting on January 7, 2019.

Matthew, an alumnus of Bensalem’s Holy Ghost Preparatory School, is an attorney in Obermayer’s Business & Finance Department and a member of the Land Use & Zoning Group.  In his role as Solicitor, he will attend the Zoning Hearing Board’s monthly public meetings, and represent the Zoning Hearing Board in appeals before the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas and other appellate courts of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  The role may even be closer to home than some may believe; Matthew’s father was the Solicitor of the Zoning Hearing Board for close to 20 years.

The Bensalem Township Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial board that is organized and operated under the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code and meets monthly to render decisions on various types of appeals from matters arising under the Bensalem Township Zoning Ordinance.

In addition to Matthew’s representation of real estate developers before various other zoning hearing boards, planning commissions and governing bodies, he also currently serves as Solicitor to the Lower Southampton Township Zoning Hearing Board and as special counsel regarding sewer and land development issues to various municipalities in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

“Matthew’s experience and understanding of complex zoning issues make him the perfect candidate for this role,” expressed Hercules Grigos, Chair of the Zoning and Land Use group at Obermayer. “He is another bridge between Obermayer and our continuously expanding land use practice into Bucks County.”
