Former Congressman Joins Obermayer

Former U.S. Congressman Michael G. Fitzpatrick joined the law firm of Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP as a partner in the firm’s Litigation Department. He will reside in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Mr. Fitzpatrick was elected four times to the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District (109th, 112th, 113th and 114th Congresses) and served eight years on the House Financial Services Committee. While there, he was a member of three subcommittees: the Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises subcommittee; the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit subcommittee, and the Oversight and Investigation subcommittee, on which he was vice chair. There he successfully sponsored legislation enacted in law, including the Credit Rating Agency Reform Act, Reverse Mortgage Stabilization Act, and additional resources for the National Flood Insurance Program. He also chaired the Bipartisan Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Finance (2015-2016), which resulted in proposed legislation.

“Mike’s legislative background is a great addition to the firm,” said Obermayer Chairman Thomas A. Leonard. “We are confident that our clients will find his knowledge and skill set to be a valuable resource.”

“I am excited to join Obermayer,” said Fitzpatrick. “I’ve known some of the firm’s attorneys for years and have a great deal of respect for their work. I believe the firm’s values align with those that I hold, specifically as it relates to serving clients and understanding their needs fully.”

Fitzpatrick has been engaged in the private practice of law for more than 20 years, representing individuals, family businesses, municipal corporations and large, complex organizations. He has experience serving as legal counsel to zoning hearing boards, township governments and school districts.

Obermayer, a full service regional law firm with 112 attorneys, is headquartered in Philadelphia with offices in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Wilmington, Delaware and New York, New York.
