Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP attorney Katherine E. Missimer presented, “Legal Pitfalls in Real Estate Investments,” at PhillyLiving’s monthly seminar, which introduced first-time investors to some of the issues inherent in buying investment properties. Missimer discussed the advantages of legal guidance in real estate investment, including limiting liability in the purchase of an investment property as a special purpose entity rather than as an individual, as well as other topics of interest to real estate investment property owners/seekers. She spoke on the importance of having agreements of sale reviewed for necessary contingencies and due diligence periods, potential conversions of single family properties to multi-family dwellings, conversions to condominiums, and lease review and other issues associated with purchasing investment properties with existing tenants.

Missimer primarily practices in real estate law, including in the areas of land use & zoning.  She assists property owners, developers and investors in the drafting and negotiation of development agreements, the drafting and preparation of planned community and condominium documents as well as the preparation of deeds of subdivision, consolidation, easement, confirmation and correction.  Ms. Missimer also has experience representing clients before the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment and the zoning hearing boards of surrounding townships and municipalities.
