Obermayer's Labor Relations and Employment Law Department Chairman and partner, James M. Penny, Jr., was featured presenters at SEPANPHA’s industry association education event, Controlling Your Unemployment Compensation Costs: Discipline, Documentation and Defense, held May 18, 2011.
The workshop, designed for Human Resource Specialists, Administrators, Directors of Nursing and other leadership staff, provided approaches that would help them to:
Terminate employees without violating the law
Understand the process of unemployment claims process
Understand and respond to UC decisions that appear to be in conflict with your evidence/testimony
Decide how to structure your initial argument and/or appeal in a way that will maximize your chances of winning
The presentation by Mr. Penny focused on strategies employers can use to reduce the legal risks associated with hiring and employment termination decisions.
