Bill Pelosi is a partner with Obermayer, where he has practiced law since 1994.  Bill helps his clients achieve their objectives using a straight-forward, cost effective approach.

Prior to attending University of Michigan Law School, Bill spent ten years at IBM, helping his clients find new ways to apply technology to achieve their goals.  Bill assisted his clients with respect to every aspect of their operations, from improving processes on the plant floor and in the development labs, to creating formal assessments of how new systems would impact financial ratios and other business metrics.

Bill’s pre-law experience keeps him focused on his client’s business objectives.  Bill provides outside general counsel support to smaller companies with an eye on controlling their costs.  He helps them limit the legal services they consume to those that are truly essential, and provides those services with great efficiency.

When litigation becomes necessary, Bill keeps it fast and efficient.  For example, he combines a knowledge of computers with legal skills to drive a cost effective approach in electronic document discovery.  He does this both in his own cases and in cases across the office.  This, critically, is where a large portion of the dollars are spent in most mid-to-large size cases.  It is also where Bill’s extra measure of expertise can be leveraged into a considerable advantage.

Bill has represented businesses in a broad range of industries and has successfully prosecuted/defended cases based on contract violations, theft of intellectual property and anti-trust violations, fraud and conspiracy, civil RICO, and other statutory and regulatory violations.  He has engineered international settlements in large commercial cases involving more than 20 parties.

A representative sample of Bill’s cases includes:

  • Defending a municipality against charges of racial discrimination leveled against it by an internationally recognized art institution.
  • Defending a major health insurance carrier against breach of contract / bad faith allegations based on it’s determination that a surgical procedure was experimental and, therefore, not covered.
  • Defending the manufacturer of flight instrument systems against product defect claims in an aircraft death case.
  • Defending a major health insurance company against antitrust monopsony claims brought against it by multiple hospitals.
  • Defending construction managers and general contractors in complicated construction injury cases.
  • Obtaining a seven figure recovery from insurers and brokers following a large, underinsured, commercial loss.
  • Enforcing a post closing adjustment to the sale price of a radio news company.
  • Protecting the buyer of commercial real estate from a quiet title action, with an eight figure transaction on the line.

Bill is always on the lookout for ways of helping his clients control litigation costs.  To that end, he periodically examines the legal mechanisms for shifting the costs of litigation to the other side in his blog:   www.theattorneyfeerecoveryblog.blogspot.com

In addition to practicing law, Bill donates his time judging mock trial events, chairs a committee at the Rotary Club of Central Bucks and serves as Treasurer for a Boy Scout troop of approximately 100 scouts and adult leaders, where he recently served as an Adult Advisor on a 11 day / 100-mile scout backpacking trip in New Mexico.

Bill is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
